Hello, I'm Lucy Spink. Welcome to my florists, café and gift shop, The Little Yellow House.

I chose Penryn because of the potential it has. I think that the Objective One funding has really made a difference to the town and the fact that young people are moving here to live and to start businesses is because there is a real energy here. Since I have been here Higher Market Studio, Open Space Gallery, Number 20 wine bar, Eden Green and Histed & Roberts opticians have all opened. The Jubilee Wharf project has also made a very big impression with its various studios and Miss Peapods all going from strength to strength.

Prior to opening as The Little Yellow House number 70 had been a greengrocers called The Orange Pip. When I first viewed it, in 2006, I fell in love straight away; it needed a lot of work doing to it, both structurally and cosmetically, but the opportunity to create something of my own was important to me.

I have tried to create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where customers can unwind with a great cup of coffee and enjoy the constantly changing range of gifts and flowers that I sell. The shop smells wonderful when you walk through the door thanks to the combination of fresh flowers, scented candles and coffee.

I try to keep the business as eco friendly as possible by only using good organic/local produce for baking and by recycling as much as possible. I use a green energy tariff and environmentally friendly cleaning products. All the packaging I use is either recycled or from sustainable sources.

The high point of running The Little Yellow House is definitely the people who I meet. I have a great crowd of regulars and new customers are constantly arriving, many on recommendation for the flowers, the gifts or my mum’s cakes, which have an ever increasing fan base!

Recently I've been featured in Country Living (February) and Cornwall Today, both of which were important to me, for the recognition and also because the articles have brought new interest and new customers, some from far afield and plenty from the local area.
